Ah man! What is up y’all? How is everything? Sheesh, so much has happened since the last post. President Obama is doing his farewell tour (please don’t go). Trump is… well Trump. The Weeknd has a new bae (Selena’s not the Selena in the song btw). Vampire Diaries is back from their Christmas hiatus (not that I watch it). Acts of violence around the world… Russia semi-getting away with hacking. Chris Brown and Soulja Boy gearing up to fight. Happy 2017!!
Now, back to this whole Trump will be President in less than a day… *shivers* Yeah, I don’t think I’m saying that statement too many times. I’ve purposefully avoided addressing this situation or expressing my direct feelings about it. So like I do with some things, I’m going to talk around the issue.
Let’s talk Black-ish.
Low key, Black-ish is one of my favorite sitcoms right now. It’s so real and relatable and shows African-Americans in a positive light while poking fun at some of the stereotypes. Black-ish is fun and incredibly smart how they mix brutally honest topics other shows don’t dare touch. Which brings me to the latest episode – LEMONS.
I recommend EVERYBODY WATCH THIS EPISODE RIGHT NOW. Remember when I said it’s relatable… The whole time I sat there watching I kept saying “ Y’all so right…How could you… It doesn’t make sense…. Preach…Damn you right about that.”
The montage of Kanye’s Blood on the Leaves playing while the camera shows different angles of people (mostly white men) rejoicing that Trump won while others (minorities and women) were taunted by the Trumpstans and were shocked by the results. Same.
The most talked about portion, and deservedly so, is the monologue Anthony Anderson’s character, Dre, expresses. Talk about deep. The crux of his message was that he loves America, even if America doesn’t love him back. Woah.
Let’s also contemplate about this heavy metaphor: the feeling Clinton voters had the morning after the election – the feeling of something not going their way – is the feeling African Americans know all too well. Feels.
All in all, this episode is applicable for anyone. From Clinton stans to Trump stans. There is something for everyone. It’s so needed today with all the demonizing of sides we constantly see every day.
So you have my recommendation…Watch it. Let me know what you think!
