Woah! Two new posts in a single week? Good lawd, I haven’t done this since… August when I first started. *laugh cry face emoji*
Today’s the day ladies and gents! We made it through primary season and made it through the general elections. We made it through the Obama’s farewell festivities (Please Barack, don’t leave). Now, while we have found some joy in Uncle Biden memes and Salt Guy vids/memes, we have to get through one more thing…the 58th Presidential Inauguration. The moment, no matter who we supported or where we are, we all say “ Oh My Gosh, D. Trump is the President of the USA.”
So I know many of my peers still have no idea how to get through this moment. But don’t you fear, the Diplomatic DJ came out of hiatus to help out. So here are 6 Ways to Survive the Inauguration.
Whether you are on FB, Twitter, Snapchat, or watching TV, the news was everywhere: Specifically political news. You had bloggers chime in (how ya doin), old teachers, your super conservative Uncle, your super liberal younger brother, your pastor, there wasand is no escape. So why don’t you unplug from social media and the news for a bit. 4 hours. 6 hours. 12 hours. Take the day. You deserve it.
Catch up on some prime reading. Read that fun fiction book you always meant to start. Start reading that self-help book you keep putting off to start on that “perfect” Monday.
Dive into work
Maybe you’re inside or outside of the beltway and have the fortune or misfortune of having to go to work. Fine! Get some extra work done! Goal set. Have a new place in mind to try during your lunch break, go for it. Stay schemin’.
Wait… it’s Friday… I mean… do what you want. But…Shhh.
Grab a friend(s) or family and get your favorite beverage(s)
Whether you want to get your favorite super chai double latte with soy, no whip cream, diamond shaped sprinkles with that throwback holiday cup from your favorite bux or rather believe HENNYTHING IS POSSIBLE (ya bum), go celebrate or mourn with your circle. Y’all need this.
Again, maybe more so for my beltway insiders, but get out of town. Frolic in a not-so-far-away place and explore. Clear your mind and stay away from all the hoopla that you may feel suffocating you.
Watch the Inauguration
When all’s said and done, inevitably we are going to have a new president in a few hours. It’s history no matter what side you are on, it’s history. Bite the bullet or put your red cap on *shivers* and watch the 58th presidential inauguration.
You may be thinking “Great advice DDJ…but what are you going to do?” Well my fellow vibers…that’s a great question. Honestly, I don’t know. Maybe a combination of all these suggestions. I envision myself waking up early enough to do most of these things (except work). Stay tuned.
Yesterday, I read an article about the 5 Craziest Hours in the White House and it’s incredible what happens in order to get the White House cleaned, prepped, and ready for the new first family in a matter of 5 hours. It’s crazy all they do in 5 hours and I can’t get a snap back. It reminded me that though our country is heavily flawed, divided, and in an uncertain place right now, we will continue on. Power will transfer, and we will get through the next four years no matter what. We’re blessed to not have to live through some drama like Gambia .
Am I being too optomistic? What should I do for the inauguration? Got some time left so please lemme know! Shout out President Barack Obama! Take care.
